Product Review: Glutino Bagels

My sons and I went down to Eugene the other day to do some shopping. We usually always visit the Capella Market to buy some gluten-free items. I happened to look at their site online beforehand and found a nifty list for all the gluten free items in the store. I never really thought about checking out the frozen foods section until this time.

Up until now I've made just about everything we eat in the bread/baked goods department. I've gone to that trouble, because I really feel like my bread, cookies, cakes, etc. are better than any mix or prepared food I've tried (crackers are the exception!). There's also the cost factor of buying prepared gluten-free food.

This day however, I was interested in trying something new - something I can't make or haven't made before. Bagels are certainly in that category. I used to make bagels back in the glory days of gluten. They are trouble to make but wonderful hot out of the oven. I haven't even attempted a gluten-free bagel recipe. I guess I am a bit skeptical.

When I saw frozen bagels (GLUTINO frozen bagels) I think my heart skipped a beat. I didn't care that they cost $5.75 for five bagels. They were mine, and I delightfully dropped them into my cart.

I was not disappointed! I didn't want to wait for one to thaw out when we arrived home, so I defrosted it in the microwave and nuked it hot. It survived this disrespectful treatment just fine, and let me tell you it was wonderful. I don't think I would be able to tell the difference between it and a glutinous one. It was chewy but soft, and the flavor was wonderful. It smelled yeasty and fresh. It makes my mouth water just thinking of it. I went to the Glutino website and found that they have several varieties as well as hamburger bun rolls. Oh my! I'm lusting after food now that I was once content to make. Shame on you Glutino for being so good!

I LOVE these bagels. The sesame ones are my fav... Toasted with cream cheese or made into a "pizza bagel", Glutino is sooo good! How exciting is it to find new GF foods that taste great?! :)
